Likes and follower counts are the vanity metrics of influencer marketing. They look good in a deck, but they don't tell you whether the campaign actually worked. If you're measuring influencer campaigns by likes alone, you're flying blind.
The 6 metrics that actually matter
1. Engagement Rate (not just engagement count). Engagement divided by reach, not followers. A post with 1,000 likes from 20,000 impressions (5% ER) is significantly better than a post with 5,000 likes from 500,000 impressions (1% ER).
2. Saves (Instagram). Save rate is the single strongest signal of genuine interest on Instagram. When someone saves a post, they're telling the algorithm โ and you โ that this content was worth keeping. A high save rate indicates the content resonated deeply.
3. Click-through Rate. For campaigns with a link in bio or a swipe-up, CTR tells you how many people were interested enough to take action. Benchmark: 0.5โ1% is good, 2%+ is excellent for influencer traffic.
4. Conversion Rate from influencer traffic. Use UTM parameters on every influencer link so you can track, in your analytics, what happens after the click. Influencer traffic that converts at 1.5% is more valuable than influencer traffic that converts at 0.2%, even if the latter drove more clicks.
5. Earned Media Value (EMV). The estimated cost of the reach and engagement you received as though it were paid media. Useful for board-level reporting, but use it as a supplement to conversion data, not a replacement.
6. Brand search uplift. Run Google Trends or Search Console data alongside your influencer campaign timeline. A spike in branded search during the campaign period is a strong signal that the campaign drove real brand awareness โ the kind that converts later, not immediately.
Setting up before the campaign
Measurement starts before the campaign, not after. Before any influencer posts, set up: unique UTM links for each creator, a baseline of your branded search volume, your current website conversion rate, and your social following as a benchmark for growth.
At PromoBuzz, every influencer campaign includes a post-campaign report covering all six of these metrics. Start a campaign with us and see exactly how we measure what matters.
